Rather than putting bones in the garbage, where they will soon stink and attract vermin, throw fresh bones from your roast, steak, etc. into a pot of water and simmer until you have a rich stock. Remove the bones and make soup with the stock--either immediately, or freeze for later use. Stock will be much tastier and healthier than storebought! Dispose of the simmered bones. They will be somewhat less stinky. If you have a fireplace, fire pit, or wood-burning furnace, they can be burned until they are odorless, and disposed of with the wood ash.
This applies to Meat bones.
